Etiquette / Setup

Setup

Infrastructure

Ceiling height

Preferably 9’ (2.75m)

Distance between attachments

Approximately shoulder width apart: 18” (45 cm)

Straps v Daisy Chains

Attach on ceiling beams or straps

Carabiners

Made of aluminum alloy and created by the rock climbing industry to withstand the significant g-force of a long fall.

Carabiners wear down faster if clipped directly onto metal and can cause a black chemical reactive smear

Handles

Short, medium and long (foot stirrups)

Etiquette

  • Hydrate well before the practice.  It is however best to empty the bladder before class, and not to have a full stomach.

  • Do not exhaust oneself, such as taking a cardio workout, before joining the practice.

  • Remove jewellery and clothing with either buckles or snaps that might snag the hammock.  Sharp objects such as hairpins or diamond rings should be removed too.

  • Clothing that covers armpits, waist and legs (at least the thighs) is suggested to minimise friction from the fabric.  T-shirts are ideal.

  • Do not play with the hammock without guidance ie before or after class.
